Family-Friendly Headingley

Hello, I’m Ailith … I live with my husband and our two daughters aged 9 & 7.  I am self-employed and manage a small, local charity: Sunshine & Smiles – Leeds Down Syndrome Network. As a family we are relatively new to Headingley but have already found lots of things we can all enjoy.

Both the girls go to Brownies at St Chad's Parish Centre.  Right on our doorstep is Beckett Park and some small areas of woodland – great for a short walk or family run, then onto the park to the play area, skate park or tennis courts, which are accessible to all.

At the Headingley campus of Leeds Beckett University, community membership is a bargain at around £255 for a whole family for a year.  We go to the well-equipped gym, sports centre & swimming pool.  In addition, they run children's swimming classes which are great.

If you want a child-friendly place for a cuppa & a cake, visit the inexpensive Café Latte near the Arndale Centre or the Heart centre which has a lovely café & lots of things on all the time for us all to explore.  Bare Coffee in Far Headingley is one of my favourite cafes
for thinking time and great music.

You will find Headingley Library has a wealth of books for everyone to loan, children’s activities in the holidays and learning sessions for adults.
