Headingley Community Hub

Headingley Community Hub has just opened in the old Headingley Library located on North Lane and we would like you to know that we are offering a lot of new services for the local community.

The first thing customers ask is, have the changes made any alterations to Headingley’s library services? The answer is that we still have a large number of adult books including Fiction, Non- Fiction, Audio and Large Print. There is a colourful, well-stocked area for children and we are continuing to run Story Time and Rhyme Time. Like before, once you have joined the Library you can borrow from any Leeds library including the mobile libraries.

We have a new layout with mobile shelving which makes the space more flexible and free flowing. This gives a much improved events space which we can use for our writers and readers groups, book launches, author visits, and for a wide range of community events including Headingley Litfest. We have also created new book display areas to encourage wider reading.

One major change is that we now offer face-to-face Customer Service for all Council enquiries. We have two Customer Service Officers to offer help, advice and guidance. We also offer two self-service phones with free access to Council Services/CAB/DWP, free Wi-fi, free access to up-to-date computers, some IT familiarisation courses.

We have a Jobshop every Wednesday to help get customers back to work or change their careers. Customers can get free, professional advice on building and revising their CVs, help with job applications and interview guidance. We will also regularly host Voluntary Action, a group which gives advice and guidance on volunteering opportunities.

Also new is that, with the support of Leeds Credit Union, we will regularly have professional advisors on money matters and be able to help people on budgeting, loans, debt advice, utility bills, benefits and much more. From June we hope to offer access to registrar appointments for the registration of births and deaths.

All this in a warm, friendly and welcoming environment, with comfortable chairs and tables and space to study and use a laptop - and the daily newspapers! Do visit us soon and find out more about us. We really welcome your feedback as we wish to ensure we provide the best and most useful services for our local Headingley community.
