Established in 1999, The Photo Shop in North Lane is one of Headingley’s oldest, independent, family-run businesses. Mark Shephard and father, Ian, became partners over 18 years ago, and their shop is now a multi-generational operation with Mark’s children, Lauren, Hannah and Luke, also working there on Saturdays and in the holidays.
Both Ian and Mark have a long history of working in the photographic industry. “Photography has transformed itself since we started. You really have to keep up with the times if you want to stay in the business,” says Ian. He started out as an assistant photographer 53 years ago working with black and white glass negatives, then became an advertising photographer working with colour film and later digital. He worked for several large studios before setting up the business.
His son, Mark, had worked with him in the early days, but then went into the processing and finishing side at CC Imaging in Leeds, then onto Chromagene which included colour working for mounting and display. Their combined knowledge and expertise means they can offer a one-stop-shop for photographic printing and processing, passport photos, photo restoration, canvas prints, posters, lamination, video transfer, prints from mobile phones, photocopying, and photographic supplies.
With a long established and loyal customer base, the question always put to clients old and new is whether the final product is “fine with you?” Quality and personal service lies at the heart of what they do, so check them out ...
